Christina Toth, The TimesPublished: Tuesday, June 03, 2008 Eagle West Cranes Inc., based in Abbotsford, and its subsidiary Stampede Crane and Rigging Inc. of Calgary, will take part in the province's first-ever wind farm project, and the one of the largest in Canada. The company said Friday it was awarded the turbine installation contract at Dokie Wind Project, which will consist of 48 Vestas V90 wind turbines near Chetwynd. The project will be done in two phases beginning in August 2008, with an expected completion in October 2009. The project is owned by Earth First Energy Inc. of Victoria, and the general contractor is Canadian Projects Ltd. of Calgary. The Dokie project could supply 536 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, enough to power nearly 50,000 homes. "The wind industry offers tremendous potential for our companies in the future and we are excited about the opportunities. We are also proud to be a part of this new generation of clean, renewable energy production," said Bob Fairbank, COO of Eagle West. With industry and government looking at alternate energy source energy, wind power is quickly emerging as one of the best opportunities for sustainable electricity. Eagle West is well positioned to be a leading service provider in this growing industry. Stampede Crane and Rigging has placed hundreds of wind turbines on wind farms throughout the Prairies, and the Dokie Wind Project now allows for expansion in British Columbia. |
