Congratulations to IPPBC member Canadian Hydro for their 67.5 MW Melancthon wind farm reaching COD last week.

The $126 million project achieved commercial operations ahead of schedule and will generate 195 GWh a year of green power.  It is Ontario’s first utility-scale wind project.

Melancthon’s 45 turbines have been placed over 2,500 acres and the 1.5 MW units are the first large-scale installation in Canada for the GE model which has a rotor diameter of 77 m. During construction, 25 construction contractors were employed; operations will require seven full-time employees. WPPI will provide $19.5 million over ten years to the project.
