Waneta hydroelectric expansion project approved.

Power Engineering News:
November 15, 2007

Waneta Expansion Power Corporation received an environmental assessment certificate for a new, $400 million, 435-MW hydroelectric power plant in southeastern British Columbia.

The project coincides with the B.C. government's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while contributing to the Energy Plan's commitment to make British Columbia electricity self-sufficient by 2016.

Before the project can proceed, it requires the federal Minister of the Environment's decision, provincial authorizations and regulatory approvals. The new power plant is expected to be in-service by 2011
