August 11, 2007 - British Columbia's environment minister is wondering why the province's NDP is criticizing the premier's green plan.
Barry Penner's comment came after the premiers' meeting in Moncton was unable to agree on a system to cut greenhouse gas emissions, although the leaders did sign an agreement on other efforts to tackle climate change.
B.C. New Democrat environment critic Shane Simpson claimed Premier Gordon Campbell didn't make much headway on his environmental agenda at the session.
But Penner said by criticizing the premier, Simpson is effectively attacking other NDP premiers who also signed the agreement.
He says the plan establishes a climate registry that will put the provinces on the same page when it comes to measuring greenhouse gas emissions.
Penner says the meeting also established that provinces should work on generating more renewable electricity, something B.C.'s already been doing for the last six years.
