January 25, 2007 Letter to Editor of Tri-City News:
The contracts that Independent Power Producers sign with BC Hydro are subject to the same rigorous review process by the B.C. Utilities Commission that was used to evaluate the Alcan contract. The IPP contracts have been accepted by this Commission. The Alcan contract was not. Is CUPE suggesting that the Commission isn’t doing its job properly?
BC Hydro still develops generating projects. Its most recent proposed project which is currently being reviewed by the Utilities Commission is the Aberfeldie Project near Cranbrook, B.C. In October 2004, BC Hydro said the cost of this project would be $51 million. In November 2006 it said it could be $94 million. And work on the project hasn’t even started.
Yours truly,
Steve Davis President Independent Power Producers association of BC |
